Description: Word spreads on the Upper East Side that Serena van der Woodsen is back in town following her disappearance to a boarding school in New England. The word spreads with thanks to Gossip Girl, and online blogger who knows all the gossip and scandal going on. Everyone is surprised at her return, including her best friend, Bliar. No-one knows the reason why Serena has now returned, which is that her brother, Eric, has attempted suicide. Chuck Bass, however, knows the reason for her disappearance which is that Serena and Nate, Blair's boyfriend, had slept together and she left to avoid conflict. The group also meet Dan, who catches the eye of Serena, and his younger sister, Jenny, who is desperate to become friends with Blair and her gang.

Description: Dan and Serena try their best to heat things up with their relationship, but are interrupted constantly by Vanessa who wishes to spend more time with Dan. Chuck decides to invest in a strip club in order to make his father proud of him and to show that he is capable of working hard. Jenny reveals to Blair that Nate still has feelings for Serena, just as Nate's parents are pressuring him into propose to Blair! Neither Blair nor Nate now want to be with each other, and give each other the silent treatment when the two families come together for dinner. Nate confronts his father about the drugs he has found, which results in his father punching him and soon after gets arrested. Blair heads to Chuck's strip club in order to let her hair down, resulting in the two having sex in the limousine ride home.

The Van der Woodsens and Humphreys join together for Thanksgiving and there is an obvious tension between Rufus, Allison and Lily. Blair returns to her bulimic past after her father doesn't show up for their celebrations.

Nate decides to ask Blair to the ball which she accepts; much to Chuck's jealousy. Serena's old-fashioned grandmother isn't happy that Dan is accompanying Serena to the ball, and would much prefer her to go with wealtheir Carter Baizen. Chuck manipulates Nate into thinking Carter is having an affair with Blair to provoke a fight with him.

Rufus is excited when his band is chosen to play at a Rolling Stones concert in which Lily shows up to despite her wedding rehearsal being that evening.
